Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce a remarkable achievement for our beloved High Street.
As of 12th November 2023, Cranleigh High Street has welcomed an impressive 1,091,824 visitors year to date, marking a significant 6.7% increase compared to the previous year. This milestone surpasses both the average footfall growth of 2.8% in the South East and the national increase of 3.6%.
These figures are provided by Springboard Location Analysis which measures High Street performance throughout the UK using footfall counters to count visitors and vehicles, benchmarking them against national, and regional statistics.
This surge in visitors is attributed in part to the successful hosting of nine High Street markets so far this year, including six editions of Cranleigh’s Surrey Hills Artisan Market and three Cranleigh Antiques & Vintage Markets. These events, meticulously organised and brought to life by a dedicated team of volunteers, have played a pivotal role in enhancing the vibrancy and economic vitality of Cranleigh High Street.
Martin Bamford, President of the Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce, expressed his gratitude, “This achievement is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our incredible volunteers. Their tireless efforts behind the scenes and on each market day have not only made these events a reality but have significantly boosted commerce opportunities for our retailers, far exceeding the average increases seen in other regions and nationally.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to Surrey Hills Enterprises and ACVR Events for their exceptional contribution in bringing these markets to Cranleigh. Their partnership has been instrumental in our success.
“As we approach the end of the year, we are excited to announce one more event – a festive edition of Cranleigh’s Surrey Hills Artisan Market scheduled for Saturday, 2nd December 2023. This event promises to be a highlight, featuring over 30 market stalls, live entertainment, children’s funfair rides, and a special visit from Father Christmas, adding to the festive cheer.”
2023 has been a challenging year for retailers and businesses. In response, the Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce remains steadfast in its commitment to support our members through various initiatives. These include attracting more visitors to Cranleigh High Street and recently establishing a Cranleigh Business Improvement District (BID). The BID will focus on destination marketing, High Street events, and enhancing security to ensure our High Street remains a welcoming place for visitors, shoppers, and retailers.
Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce is encouraging local businesses to seize the opportunities created by these initiatives. By promoting their businesses and engaging positively with the community, businesses can maximise the benefits of the vibrant environment the Chamber and newly established Cranleigh BID strive to cultivate.
