We’re delighted to see the Christmas Tree being installed in the High Street today, a great reminder that Christmas is coming!
As previously explained, due to the number of new replacement light motifs required following flash testing this year, we decided to cancel the switch-on event due to the uncertainty around delivery timing and installation. The new replacement lights are on their way from overseas, and an installation date will be arranged shortly thereafter.
Organising a public event the scale of the Christmas Lights switch-on requires months of planning and hundreds of volunteer hours to arrange road closures, event management plans and risk assessments, licences, entertainment and more. Without knowing for sure that the lights would be in place in time to switch on (!) we felt we could not take the risk of continuing to organise a switch-on event.
However, at Cranleigh’s Surrey Hills Artisan Market on Saturday 2nd December, we hope all of the lights will be installed and can go live along the High Street and Common. We’ve added some festive touches to this event, including fun fair rides and live music, to make it a special family event, and to give our beloved High Street a special boost at this vital time of the year.
Our thanks and gratitude go to Hans Christmas Andersen for their continued donation of the Christmas Trees for the High Street, Stennetts for the early morning delivery of the tree to the High Street, and to all of the Chamber members and new Cranleigh BID members for funding the purchase and installation of Christmas Lights.
